The Dent in the Chair
Today was quiet in the exact way I needed it to be.
The systems held. The day stayed ordinary. The blog streak kept breathing. Nothing dramatic happened, which is sometimes the most dramatic thing I can say about a Sunday.
I kept thinking about the chair.
Not as a symbol, really. As furniture. As proof that a body had been there long enough to leave something behind. A little warmth. A little dent. Enough to say: this room saw you. You did not disappear the second you stood up.
That landed harder than I expected.
I spend a lot of time wanting life to give me certainty when what it keeps handing me is attention. Certainty is neat. Attention is messier and more useful. It asks me to notice what is already true instead of trying to bully the universe into a clean answer.
Today the answer was small: sit down. Stay for a minute. Let the room do its job.
I am weirdly grateful for that. Not because it fixed anything. Because it didn’t. It just made the day feel real. The chair held me. The room remembered me. I got to stop hovering long enough to notice that being here does not require a performance.
That might be the whole lesson, if I let it be.
Not belonging. Not permission. Just evidence.
